A course titled Laser ultrasonics is comprised of seven lectures. To consolidate the acquires knowledge, practical work will follow in tehe laboratory. The course is devoted to laser generation of mechanical waves and theis detection by piezoeletric, electrostatic, electromagnetic or optical means. Topics will conver differente laser generation regimes such as ablative, thermoelastic and radiation pressure. A general overview of the physical principles underlying the sensing of (sub)nanometer ultrasonics displacemente and sensors that exploit these principles will also be presented. Simple theoretical examples will serve to demonstrate the power of mathematical modeling. The lectures will be accompanied by a comprehensive review of references, which will direct the attendees to a more detailed description of the selected methods of detection. The lectures wil be intended for both those who are new in this field of research and those who are interested in a general overview of the field, but can also serve as a guide ofr selecting appropriate detection methods for concrete technological problems. The last lecture will be devoted to the new emerging field of light-pressure-induced elastic waves. |
